Healthy Schools

At St Francis Catholic Primary School, we recognise that the health and well-being of children is vital to their growth and development; it contributes to their long term success and achievements. Through Healthy Schools we can help our pupils to reach their potential by building on a solid foundation of health to do well in learning and in life.

We try to promote health and well-being for all of our children and staff. Our PSHE curriculum, after school clubs, school lunches, PE lessons, Science lessons, workshops and visitors all contribute to the health of our pupils.

We believe that proper nutrition and fluid intake are essential to all members of the school community if they are to fulfil their potential in life. Proper nutrition is necessary for good health and effective teaching and learning.

We successfully regained our Healthy Schools status in April 2025, under the four areas of:

  • PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education)
  • Healthy Eating
  • Physical Education
  • SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health)

Please read our fantastic Healthy Schools report here.

We were also awarded the Child Friendly Leeds Wish 3 certification for our exceptional contribution to representing children's voices.: Children and young people express their views, feel hard and are involved in decisions that affect their lives. The Child Friendly Leeds 12 wishes represent the voice of children in young people in Leeds. They were refreshed in 2022, using data from 80,000 children and young people, and act as a framework for making Leeds the best city to grow up in.

We are also proud to remain a PSHE friendly and mindmate friendly school.

Our Gardening Club

St Francis Catholic Primary School's gardening club gives our children a rich, exciting and diverse knowledge of gardening and nature within school.

Our gardening club donates part of its produce to our classes to support our schools cooking curriculum as well as selling the seedlings they have grown and cultivated.
