Swimming

At St Francis, Year 4 pupils go swimming once every week for the whole year. Swimming lessons take place at Morley Leisure Centre and last 30 minutes. The children are taught by a mixture of the Leisure Centre staff and also St Francis Primary School staff.

The National Curriculum requirement for all children leaving Year 6 is to:

• swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
• use a range of strokes effectively
• perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

 

New Swimming Guidelines: 

The National Curriculum requirement is for children at the end of KS2 to be able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
